Book Review | Ripley's Believe It or Not Annual 2016

Thursday, 17 December 2015 / Leave a Comment

As a child I always looked forward to receiving annuals at Christmas time. There was just something about collecting books with each year stamped on it!
This is a tradition I have kept with my own children and so each Christmas I buy them an annual (or 2 if I can't pick!)
This year for Big T Ripley's 2016 edition of Believe It or Not has caught my eye.

Homework Is an evil word!

Friday, 27 November 2015 / Leave a Comment

It's Friday afternoon and I am sat here already dreading this weekend when I have to mention the 'H' word.
Our past 4 weekends have been dictated by Big Ts explosive rants and tantrums about not wanting to do his homework.
Now any family or friends who know Big T know that when he gets in a mood he can sulk for the gold medal at the Olympics if it were a sport!

Vauxhall Zafira B's Catching Fire! | Has yours been recalled?

You may have seen on social media or on TV lately (Shows such as the BBCs Watchdog or ITVs breakfast show Good Morning Britain) that Vauxhall are in the process of recalling 220,000 Zafira B's for inspection due to the risk of them catching fire *argh!*

My family has a Vauxhall Zafira B.

Siblings | November 2015

I can not believe its Siblings Linky time again!
I had thought I'd share something 'amazing' for this month but as usual just been so hectic with the mundane everyday life of housework, looking after the kids and running out to work that weeks have passed and we have not done anything 'exciting'.

Big T and K had their parents evening last week so we had the usual bickering leading up to it of who had done better at school!
#siblingrivalry grrrrrrrrrr
They have still had their wars and bickering over the most stupidest things.
They have also been getting jealous a lot of each other  and who gets to spend the most one on one time with me.
Makes for a very tiring time when little T has decided the past few weeks that he dosn't want to sleep in his bed, he'd rather be in with mummy.
This then starts K off with 'I want to sleep with you mum' and I have to try really hard to explain why little T can share the bed but not her. Space being the biggest issue! and I just don't want to share my bed! But it is hard and not fair on anyone.
Feels like a lot of unfairness and sibling rivalry floating about in our household the past few weeks :(

Heres hoping December sees an improvement!...It is Christmas after all :)

My picture for this month is actually a video.
It is showcasing the mad moments when all 3 get together and wrestle on the rug.
Little T loves to jump all over his older siblings and they love to get squashed...weird kids!
But its FUN.

dear beautiful

I look forward to reading all the other linkys.

10 signs your child needs an eye test | Children's eye health

Sometimes it can be tricky to tell if your child has a problem with their eyes whilst some cases can be glaringly obvious.
Children quite often will not know themselves that they have a problem with their vision and they can be really good at compensating for having poor vision so that you wouldn't even notice.

Dealing with death with children | A tribute to my Nan

It is my Nan's funeral tomorrow. A time to say goodbye.
I found this poem on the internet and thought it summed things up brilliantly.

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be
so he put his arms around you
and whispered,
Come to me.
With tearful eyes we watch you
and saw you pass away
and although we loved you dearly
we could not make you stay.
A loving heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
he only takes the best.

Where ma diddy? | The dummy debate

Monday, 2 November 2015 / Leave a Comment

Epic meltdown in the supermarket.
Tiredness twinned with anger that he couldn't have THAT toy. Strangers staring at the screaming toddler rolling around on the floor.
Me, face bright red, feeling embarrassed wishing the ground would open up and swallow me whole!
Then I utter the words....."Do you want your diddy?"(Diddy = Our word for Dummy/Pacifier/Soother) as I place the noise stopper in his mouth, taking the easy option to end the tantrum.

Cow & Gate Growing up milk 1-2 | BzzAgent Review #3

Monday, 26 October 2015 / Leave a Comment
My 21 month old is a total milk addict.
The opposite to when he was a newborn when he would only take a couple of ounces every hour or so.
My eldest two were off bottles by aged 1 then decided they didn't want milk anymore. Little T however loves his bottle and has a bottle in the morning and one at bed still so I am reluctant to take it away just yet.
I did think about cows milk or follow on toddler milk when Little T turned 1 and decided on the former.

This month has been a hard month so far.
I received some bad news in the family recently.
This seems to have had an effect on Big T the most as he has picked up on my feelings, which I fear have made him act out the past couple weeks.
This coupled with his recent headaches and burning eyes he has been suffering with have made for some tough times!

Car Smoking Ban in England and Wales

I have horrible memories of being trapped in a car filled with smoke. My throat burning and eyes streaming begging for the window to be opened.
I was on a road trip with my Nan and Granddad.
My granddad was a heavy smoker and my Nan did not like driving with the windows open.
So I had to suffer.

#MatalanModernFamilies | My Family 2015

Thursday, 30 April 2015 / Leave a Comment
I was browsing the Internet recently and came across Matalan's Modern Families campaign.

Its all about what is a modern family today?.

Gone are the days of 2.4 children. Many families consist of 1 or more parents, birth or adoptive, or even same gender parents.
I don't believe, when it comes to family, that their is a 'normal'. Who can define 'normal' when it comes to anything.
Matalan have showed this in their latest advertising campaign.

Growing up I was lucky my family was the pretty standard Mum and Dad together,Both sets of Grandparents together and 2 brothers followed by the usual Aunts and Uncles.

I was actually jealous of my friends who had split family's!
They got 2 houses to live at, 2 sets of parents, 2 lots of everything! (In my eyes as a child)
Their was only one friend who I felt sad for as she just had a mum, no dad.

The children love a selfie ha ha, next thing in jumped daddy :)
A nice (rare) photo of us all, though Little T don't look happy about it (having to share his cuddle time)

Term Time Holidays | Would You Risk A Fine?

Monday, 27 April 2015 / Leave a Comment

It has been all over the news lately that huge numbers of family's are ignoring the new rules of 'no term time holidays' and going regardless, risking a fixed penalty fine of £60 per child AND per parent.

Our first term time holiday ( And first ever holiday as a family of 4) was in June 2012.
Big T was in the reception class of primary school.
I did not even think whether I was 'allowed' to take him out of school or not.It was a holiday with extended family all paid for so we just went along with it.

I contacted the head teacher at the time who said she was not allowed to authorise it however I could take him.
I have since learned that as a child does not legally have to start school till the term after their 5th birthday, I was not breaking any rules at the time hence probally why the headteacher was nice about it .

I offered to take school work with us, I did not want him to fall behind, but was told by his teacher there was no point as they would not be learning a lot that particular week as it was sports day and they would be practicing, and they had a school trip planned.

I was upset that he would be missing his first primary school sports day (He had done 2 at pre-school) and first school trip as was he but he was equally happy to be going on holiday and having a week off school!

We had a lovely time together with family that we would not of been able to afford on our own.

Fast forward to 2015.
We booked our holiday with friends last year, well aware of the fact that the law now states that a parent has NO RIGHT to take a child out of school for a term time holiday as of September 2013.
Very scary sounding!!!
I still was not that worried though thinking 'Whats the worst that can happen?'

I am well aware there are 190 days in a school year which leaves 175 days for holidays. - This is sent in a letter every week to us from the headteacher:)

Being able to afford a holiday in the school holidays is one issue, as is trying to get the time off work.
Many parents are all trying to book the same weeks off and some company's have block out periods where holidays are not allowed.
I have 1 week off in August (Out of the 6!!) and one in October. I was lucky to get these with the other parents I work with.

We made the decision to go on holiday in May, with friends, to make it cheaper.
Booking a mid week break early May has cost around £499, to go few weeks later in the school holidays was £899.

I informed the school and was told I need to fill in an absence notification form as there are no such thing as term time holidays only unauthorised absences ie. Truancy
This will be forwarded to the Penalty Service where we will find out if we will be fined or not.
We could be facing a fine of £240, as it is £60 per child (I have 2 school age children) and per parent.

That's right, both parents get fined! Crazy!
Amanda Moss - Holiday Campaigner

Maybe I should buy one of those^^ T-Shirts designed by Amanda Moss (Who faced a fine for 6 children *gulp*) #FINEPARENTS

I am hoping we may be lucky as on the Cambridgeshire County Council website it states fines will be issued if the child misses 6 sessions in a 4 week period.
Luckily the kids had norovirus over 4 weeks ago (Not lucky they got ill but lucky it was a while ago*lol*, and they are having 5 days off for the holiday so fingers crossed......

I will post an update after our holiday!

What do you think?

Would you book a term-time holiday?

Let me know in the comments

UPDATE 4th July 2015

We thankfully did not receive a penalty fine but got a warning from the education welfare officer for a drop in my children's attendance. I was told they are being monitored now and if there is no improvement then a fine will be issued. *phew*
Also 'a session' is an AM or Pm at school so be mindful that taking a weeks holiday is actually missing 10 sessions of school!

Mummy and me March 2015 | #1

Saturday, 28 March 2015 / Leave a Comment
I was reading my favorite blogs today and saw this mummy and me post from Oh so Amelia
Originally started off by Nicola at Life through my Eyes, (a blog I've never read before but will continue to do so!),
the idea is you share a photo of you and your children each month.
You then link your post up to Nicola's and visit somebody else's blog that's on the list.
I've yet to post a photo on my blog yet so thought I'd give it a go.

I scrolled my whole camera roll...I have loads of photos of my children...but hardly any of us all together!
I eventually found this one taken last summer.
Last summer was the last time I took a photo of myself with my children! *shock*
Little T is 5 months here.
Shame on me.
I'll make it my mission now to take a monthly picture of myself with my children.

I hope I've linked up right and done this being a newbie!

EDIT 10/05/2016
This post is actually one of my most viewed posts on my blog!

AirWick LifeScents | BzzAgent Review #1

Friday, 6 February 2015 / Leave a Comment

I received my Bzz kit over a week ago in time for my 2nd campaign.
It smelt nice as soon as I opened the box!
Air Wicks Life Scents.
The first constantly changing air fragrance!

As soon as I plugged it in after a few minutes I was over powered by the smell :(
It was very strong.
I worked out how to turn it down with the little dial and it was much better.
Now I'm used to the smell it does not seem so over powering however it is strong.
I can definitly smell it every time I enter the room.
Even when it's turned off the smell lingers around constantly so there is always a pleasant smell around.
We have all had the dreaded sick bug last few days so this has been a god send for getting rid of the smells!
Over all I would gladly buy a refill when this one runs out.
I have been recommending to friends and family.

Have you tried them yet?
How do you scent your home?
